Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind” - Bernard M. Baruch
It took me forever to build up the courage to create artworks that were 100% me. So used to creating work for clients alone I had completely lost connection with the type of work I could create for myself; work from within, not academic, but abstract and emotional. Not answering a particular brief not meeting specific objectives but simply creating from that magical non-thinking expressive place that we all have within us. I never believed that anyone would be interested in the work that would come from that place in my imagination. I thought maybe it was a bit weird, maybe people wouldn’t get it, maybe it would not make sense but after a year that has been a rollercoaster of super highs and devastating lows I decided ‘what the hey’ and started creating it anyway. It turns out that people do like the work that I create from that wired-magical-place-in-my-imagination and even more importantly I kinda like it too.
A few weeks ago I was commissioned to create a collection of artworks for the XR 'Making History' March In solidarity of Black Lives in Manchester last weekend. The artwork is currently on display at The Royal Exchange, The Manchester Art Gallery and Manchester Cathedral. It was an absolute honour to be apart of, the day was powerful and left a lasting positive impact on those who took part. You do you today and everyday. It takes courage but as the quote says. 'Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.'
Have a fantastic weekend.
